Why Most Payments Innovation Fails: Unpacking the Reasons

We’re in a time of tremendous change in payments, in all countries. In some places move is from pretty much wholly cash to digital, using a mobile device; think what Peru is doing with Bim, via an association of private-sector entities, or what Safaricom has done in Kenya with M-Pesa. In the United States, vast amounts of money are being bet on new payments products but big successes have been few.

Much of this, I think, comes from the legacy of digital payments in the US, and I recently wrote a piece explaining why I think so.
